Things I Fucking Love: October Witchy Vibes
Mugs, Podcasts, Docos, TV and Decorations...It's bitchy witchy time!
Hey nerds!1
Perimenopause has KICKED MY ASS over the last four months. My fatigue has been my unwanted and forever sidekick. And because I spend EVERY AFTERNOON napping I’m convinced my 11-year old daughter thinks she has an invalid mother who forgets even the basic things like what time Aikido starts and where my phone is.
But October has rallied my spirits a touch…after all it’s my favourite time of the year. So let’s get witchy and bitchy.
Witchy Mugs
My husband made the mistake of telling me we didn’t have “co-ordinated mugs”, that our cupboard did not look like the pages of an ikea catalogue with beige mugs for infinity.
Right, I thought. Fuck this and now we have a theme for our mugs all year round: Halloween.
Let me be clear, no Fall Feelings or Pumpkin Spice Vibes mugs. (I just threw up a little in my mouth). ONLY witchy, spooky and gory mugs may apply to join our household.
Here is my newest gem that has a matching good witch mug, which gets far less use.
Witch, The Podcast
It was the lovely
who turned me onto the BBC Radio 4 podcast, Witch.India Rakusen has created a magical 14 part series on what it means to be a witch. It is a perfect series to listen to while you’re making the world’s most tedious dinner for your family or while you’re putting a hex on your neighbour who speeds down your street while you worry about all the pets and squirrels crossing the road.
I can’t recommend it highly enough…get listening witches!
Witch Trials, The Documentary
I watched a two-part documentary by British actress Suranne Jones boringly named Suranne Jones: Investigating Witch Trials. It covered much of the same hallowed ground as the podcast, but it’s more like an amuse-bouche of witches and the podcast is the main meal. The scene where Suranne howls along with the musician Bat Of Lashes is fucking awesome. Get your howls on witches!
Bewitching Mantel
Does anyone else have three big cardboard boxes labeled, “Halloween spooky!”? This house does.
With the aforementioned, FUCKING FATIGUE, only a few of the decorations have made it out. My beautiful Berlin Bats and my zombie ancestors are in pride of place and greet visitors I have absolutely no energy to interact with. Maybe a bat will bite them and give them rabies. Kidding, not kidding.
My Number One Witch
My number one witch since age 10 was The Grand High Witch from Roald Dahl’s classic “The Witches”. I loved her because she was evil and ate children! She felt proper witchy.
And then this September I feel deeply and madly in love with my new head chrone, Agatha Harkness. I’m planning to join her coven so I can go down the witches road and find the super power of energy!
You have permission to stop reviewing the Excel spreadsheet Frank sent you and binge watch Agatha All Along. And if you get any pushback send them to me and I’ll pull off their penis and put it in my penis nest - seriously that’s a thing witches did, apparently (see podcast!).
Watch my head crone on Disney+, Agatha All Along
I’ve got supplements and HRT winging it’s way to me via bats…certainly hoping it’s magic and that in two weeks I’ll be running down the basement stairs instead of pouring myself down to put the 2-day-wet and smelly laundry into the dryer.
With love and witchy vibes,
Annabel

I’m using nerds in the best possible way. Nerdship: How we love a thing with such veracity that we annoy others, and then one magical day we find other people who feel the same way about the thing we love. That is nerdship.
The ballad of the witches road is playing on repeat on my head, LOVE it 😍🧹
Talking of witches have you seen the series based on the book The Discovery of Witches so so good!! Came out a few years ago the tv show but the books are good.
